    Features

Delivering the outstanding garden performance you’ve come to love about Supertunia® petunias, this updated form of Supertunia® Bordeaux petunia offers greater flower power that starts earlier in spring. The full, robust plant bears blossoms on every branch from planting time until frost. Slightly lighter lavender flowers with a dark throat and veining may occasionally display a faint white picotee margin on the petal edges.

Like all Supertunia petunias, the petals of Supertunia Bordeaux II are thicker than many petunia flowers, which helps them to be more durable in adverse weather and bounce back more quickly after it rains. Additionally, strong disease resistance keeps the plant growing strong all season.

Supertunia petunias are vigorous with slightly mounded habits that function as both fillers and spillers in containers. They are also excellent landscape plants, best suited to be placed near the front of beds. They have medium to large sized flowers.

    Maintenance Notes:

Supertunia® petunia plants are easy to grow and will flower non-stop from planting to hard frost if simple maintenance tasks are performed. Growing Supertunias in full sun to part sun is important for their strong growth and bloom performance. They do not require deadheading, meaning the removal of spent flowers, to stay in bloom all season.

Petunias thrive with consistent moisture. Do not let them wilt severely before watering again.

Supertunia petunias perform best when fed regularly with Proven Winners plant foods. At planting time, in containers and landscapes, mix Proven Winners Premium Continuous Release Plant Food into the soil, following the rates specified on the packaging. Reapply halfway through the growing season.

Additionally, Supertunias should be fed regularly with Proven Winners Premium Water Soluble Plant Food according to the rates specified on the packaging. For Supertunias growing in containers, feed every third time you water or at least once per week. For Supertunias growing in the ground, feed once every one to two weeks.

If you have been feeding your petunias regularly and they are getting enough sun and water but are not blooming, you may be dealing with petunia budworm. Learn more about this petunia pest.

By midsummer, it will be time to trim up your Supertunias. Trim the longest stems, bringing them in line with the others, taking care not to remove more than 20% of the plant. Trimming petunias in the landscape is not usually necessary but cutting them back by 20% can make the plants fuller. Follow up by feeding them with water soluble plant food to promote fresh new growth and blooms.

    • I have grown Bordeaux for years. It was my second favorite Proven Winners annual with Bubblegum being my all time favorite. I purchased the new Bordeaux II this year and I’m very disappointed in it. The color is not like before. The outer edge of the bloom is purple with the inner part of the bloom white. Please bring back the original Bordeaux.

    • I've grown Bordeaux for years. This years new color and pattern is an OBVIOUS difference- and not for the better. What used to be a beautiful purple with pink/plum undertone flower is now a muted dull purple center with thick gray margins. It's a if the flowers are being seen in black and white. This petunia was a heavy hitter in my garden but now I'll be looking for alternatives. Swing and a miss!

    • I think the Supertunia Bordeaux is the best flower I've ever grown. For years I've had a porch garden in New York City, where the summers are not what you think- it's very hot, and recently with frequent heat waves in the 90s. All the Supertunias are fantastically hardy and give you big color reward for little effort. The Bordeaux, however give you a little extra in terms of an unusual color profile that's both unique and incredibly versatile. You wouldnt think this purple would go with everything - but it does! It makes a gorgeous impression by itself in a mass, and as an accent. It's become my go-to flower.
