    Features

Superbena Violet Ice verbena are very vigorous with strongly trailing habits, making this purple verbena plant ideal as a long blooming annual flowers. They need relatively long days to bloom, but will bloom prolifically. They have very large flowers and umbels. They are great in landscapes and containers, especially as a dependable heat tolerant verbena. In landscapes, Superbena Violet Ice verbena are best used at the front of beds and they function as spillers in combination planters.  If you are looking for a colorful annual ground cover, Superbena is a great choice among blooming annual flowers.

The most eye-catching part of Superbena Violet Ice verbena is the large white eye that contrasts beautifully against this vibrant purple verbena plant. We always select stable colors that give gardeners the most consistent experience possible. However, when it comes to patterns like this, there is likely to be some variation over time. Superbena Violet Ice verbena will at times naturally change to a solid color. This can be a single flower in a cluster, a whole umbel of flowers or even an entire branch. For Superbena Violet Ice verbena, this color change is most likely to be either a striped pattern or solid white. If you prefer that your plant not have this color variation, trimming off the portion of the plant that has flowers with the odd coloration, can minimize how much of your plant ends up with the color change. If you don't mind the new look, there is no need to do anything.  It isn't detrimental to this heat tolerant verbena in any way. This isn't a common occurrence, but it is something that happens in a small percentage of Superbena Violet Ice plants each year.

    Uses Notes:

Great for use in both containers of all types and landscapes where this purple verbena plant performs reliably as one of the best long blooming annual flowers.

    Maintenance Notes:

Superbena® verbena plants are easy to grow and will flower non-stop from planting to frost if simple maintenance tasks are performed. Growing Superbena in full sun to part sun is important for their strong growth and bloom performance. They do not require deadheading, meaning the removal of spent flowers, to stay in bloom all season.

These heat tolerant annuals typically require a bit less water and feeding than many kinds of flowering annuals. If your garden soil is very heavy and tends to stay soggy for a while after it rains, plant your Superbena verbena in a container instead of in the ground. Let the soil dry out a little bit between waterings, but do not let the plants wilt severely before watering again.

Superbena performs best when fed with Proven Winners plant foods. At planting time, in containers and landscapes, mix Proven Winners Premium Continuous Release Plant Food into the soil, following the rates specified on the packaging. In containers, reapply halfway through the growing season. In the ground, a single application in spring is typically sufficient.

Additionally, Superbena verbena should be fed with Proven Winners Premium Water Soluble Plant Food every ten days to two weeks according to the rates specified on the packaging.

Superbena does not require much trimming to keep it looking great all season. If you’d like your plants to have a fuller, bushier shape, trim up to 20% off the ends of the stems midseason. Follow up by feeding them with water soluble plant food to promote fresh new growth and blooms.

    • I purchased 8 plants and wish I'd gotten more. I was skeptical of ordering online. They were so healthy when they came and now they are just gorgeous plants. I highly recommend and will purchase online again.

    • Awesome plant! I have two n their third year, first two years in a pot and now in the landscape. Survives my Zone 9A winters and a severe cold snap in April. Current spread is 4’. Wish I could attach a photo. Drought and deer tolerant that needs little to no special attention. If you can’t grow Supertunias, Superbeanas are a great alternative!

    • Bought this variety in May 2015. First one I ever had and it has been a most pleasant surprise. The plant shares a large pot with 3 others and is growing like mad. Trails and fills wonderfully and the flowers are huge...each one about the size of a dime. Like all my PW Verbena, it is tough, needs really only water and infrequent feeding. Not my first choice for color but given all the positives this plant is on my "to buy" list for 2016. Highly recommend.
