Professional Growing Information My favorite. Reviewer below may have overwatered. They take a few years to establish and then wowza! One caution...the taproot is deep so moving them is hard. If left to go to seed they will self plant. I have given many away. They take at least three years to bloom from this baby state. The leaves make wonderful filler and my friends always admire its beauty. I Mostly like the deep purple. Pair with astilbe and it's beautiful in a bouquet. Give it room because it gets big.

Purchased this plant on June 14, 2023 and planted immediately in my front flower beds. Full sun, mulched, drip hose watering every day during drought or every couple days when not. It never grew past the size it was when I bought it and never really looked healthy. This spring it's dead - went to check for any new growth and gently pushed last years dead twigs to one side to see if anything was coming up underneath and the entire plant snapped off in my hand. It rotted at ground level. Not a happy camper, it was not cheap. I specifically research and only invest in perennials that are viable in my zone and plant accordingly so I don't have to constantly keep spending money to make the yard look nice. Now there's an obvious chunk of empty space in our front flower bed and we have to go back to the drawing board and spend more money on something to fill it.
